What to do in Vilnius?

Vilnius is a quite small place, but you still have a lot to do. In this section we’ll give you our suggestions of places you should visit, and some events that you can’t miss.

Please keep in mind that this are just our suggestions and the places we know, if you want to suggest a new place, just get in contact with us, we would love to keep this website updated.

The Hill of Three Crosses

Get ready to climb some stairs, if you want to see this beautiful Hill that will give you the perfect view of Vilnius Old Town. We recommend you to go there during the sunset in a sunny day, and if you’re lucky you’ll be able to see some hot air balloons in the sky. In the winter time, when the town is full of snow, the view is also really beautiful, and we suggest you to explore the hills next to it. The hill next to the Hill of Three Crosses is a large straight place where you’ll see a lot more snow than you expect, and you will probably be able to do snowman’s, snow angels, or a snowball battle.

Uzupis is exclusive, most unusual and most bohemian neighbourhood in Vilnius. Uzupis residents safely say that it is a country in the country. This tiny area of the town flows of inspiration, creates true art and breaks all, even the smallest, stereotypes. In this “country” you’ll find a lot of artworks, and you can even interact with some of them. For example the Wall to legalize the consume of weed, you can just grab a pen and leave your mark in the Wall to show your support.

This place has a lot of cute little stores with alternative things, you can find stores with natural oils and “spells”, or some cool souvenirs.

Uzupis has a valid unique Uzupis republic constitution carved on the wall and notifying all the strangers about the Užupis rules. The constitution has been translated into nine languages so that more people understand it correctly. Close to the constitution you will see a small library, and this library has an adorable detail, the owner is a cat. Well, not really the owner, but the cat is the oldest “worker” in the library what makes him the “boss”. He has been “working” for about 15 years. So make sure you go to this library and ask for the “Fat Lord” so you can pet this respectful boss.

Užupis

In Vilnius you’ll find a lot of great parks to take a walk, so  we will now list our favorite ones.

Benardine Parkas

If you are going to visit the Three crosses Hill, make sure you also take a walk in this park. It’s a really pretty park, specially during the fall because everything is full of warm colors. In this park you can just relax with your friends, take a walk, and feed some ducks (make sure you give them the right food, bread is not a good food for them).

Vingio Parkas

This park is great to spend a whole morning in. You can rent bicycles, rollerskates, longboards or you can even try something close to Ski but without snow ( we don’t know the name of this sport). You’ll also find some places where you can eat, but you can bring your own food and make a picnic. Try to visit this park in a sunny day, so it is possible for you to rent the bicycles

Parks

Make sure you don’t miss this event, it was a really special moment for us. Basically in this event you’ll see a competition of fireworks between countrys. The event is in October and the price for the ticket was 17€, and it takes place in Vingio Park. Bring your warmest jacket, gloves, socks, scarf, and a beanie, because you’re going to be there in the cold for a long time.

Firework Competition

With the beginning of December  the Christmas Spirit starts to appear. Don’t miss the big Christmas tree  that will show up next to the cathedral. If you are interested to see the exact moment when they turn on the lights for the first time, ask the locals or search in the internet the date. In the inauguration day there will also start a Christmas market with a lot of diversity: Food, Souvenirs, Christmas ornaments, and much more.

Christmas Market

This place is a must-go in Vilnius. Probably the best place to have a full panorama view of the entire city. Here you can see the differences between the Old town and the other side of the river.
